Laurens County Museum Military Uniform

The Military Exhibit

Our military exhibit honors a long legacy of service by Laurens County residents. Displays include dress and combat uniforms from WWI and the Korean Conflict, ration books and personal memorabilia from WWII, and a unique portable communion set used by army chaplain Copeland Whitmire in Vietnam. Also on display are vintage newspapers and a rare Army recruitment poster from WWI aimed at enlisting African Americans. Several artifacts excavated from the Revolutionary War battle site of Fort Lindley are on view along with reproductions of clothing worn in the Colonial period. The War Between The States display features a minie ball from Manassas, a Confederate sword, and one of only twelve known original lithograph copies of South Carolina’s Order of Secession.
