The Rosemont Room
In the 1850’s Laurens County native Ann Pamela Cunningham spearheaded a national effort to buy and restore George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon. She raised money from women across the country establishing chapters of the Mount Vernon Ladies Association in every state. They collected over $200,000, enough to purchase the plantation and home. The Mount Vernon Ladies Association was the first preservationist movement in the country. Today Mount Vernon is the most popular historic estate in America, averaging one million guests a year. Designed and maintained by the Rosemont Preservation Society, the Rosemont Room at the museum is dedicated to the memory of this remarkable woman.
